Balmages wrote Majestica in 2006 for beginning band. The score includes his program notes:

As its title suggests, Majestica is a musical celebration. It was commissioned for the 40th anniversary of Canterbury Woods Elementary School in Virginia, with Tiffany Hudson as director and Barbara Messinger as principal.

The piece itself, while not programmatic in nature, receives its inspiration from the enthusiasm shown by the many young students in music. It seeks to embody the very magic that is music-the ability to transcend all languages and communicate any emotion. A successful performance will surely bring about a sense of pride and dedication that comes with an institution that has been in the community for such a long period of time.
