Erick Martin Ramírez del Águila (b. 1991) is a Peruvian composer, arranger, and band leader. (You can see a Spanish-language interview with him here.) His Peru Ensamble series, supported by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, has brought several works of traditional and popular Peruvian music into music education settings, particularly for large ensembles. Ramírez’s arrangement of Saca las Manos by Juan “El Cholo” Chumbiauca (1957-2023) comes from this series, and it exists in versions for band and orchestra. Ramírez’s version has yet to be recorded live!

I can’t find much on the origins of Saca las Manos, but here are a few highlights from over the years.

First, here is a TV news announcement of Chumbiauca’s death in 2023, which features several clips of Saca las Manos:

Here is a tutorial about how to play the cajón part for Saca las Manos, featuring a fairly traditional recording of it:

Here is a big fusion-ish arrangement sung by Eva Ayllón from 2025, live in concert:

Saca las Manos is a festejo peruano, and here is a choreographed dance to another example from the genre:

Finally, here are the lyrics to Saca las Manos in Eva Ayllón’s famous version, along with a rough translation.
